How old were you when you started playing your instrument?
“I started piano when I was 7, then the violin when I was 9.”
What is your favorite music to listen to?
“Weird Al offers me an escape from the seriousness nature of my profession.”
Besides the Bakersfield Symphony, what else do you do for a living?
“In addition to my youth symphony and community orchestras that I direct, I am a high school music teacher of hand bells, choir, symphony orchestra, guitar, and a music appreciation class.”
What is one piece of advice you would give to an aspiring musician?
“Besides the obviousness of practicing (daily and at a regular time to build the routine) play in front of people every chance you get - and the sooner the better.”
What do you enjoy most about playing with the BSO?
“Although the orchestra has changed a lot in the last few years, I still feel as though it is very much a family whose core players are representative of the valley and the community we serve.”
