How old were you when you started playing your instrument?

“Piano - 2nd grade Clarinet - 5th grade Trombone - 10th grade”

What is your favorite music to listen to?

“Pretty much any that match the listening mood I am in at that moment! Tops are classical and jazz.”

What is one piece of advice you would give to an aspiring musician?

“Keep at it no matter how difficult is seems. It is one of the few activities you can do until you do not want to or physically can't. My hero is a former stand partner that was still playing well at the tender age of 92!!”

What do you enjoy most about playing with the BSO?

“The quality of the music, the musicians, the conducting and the enjoyment that comes from being a part of an ensemble that is able to successfully entertain our audiences!”

Why do you believe in the importance of music education?

“I am a retired music educator with 43 years of classroom experience. To say I believe in the importance of music education would be a huge understatement. I read this quote from John F. Kennedy when I was quite young and it spoke to me and has guided my passion of passing music on to the next generation of students. ‘The life of the arts, far from being an interruption, a distraction, in the life of the nation, is close to the center of a nation's purpose - and is a test to the quality of a nation's civilization.’ — John F. Kennedy”

Besides the Bakersfield Symphony, what else do you do for a living?

“Currently a retired music teacher but still assist with several schools during marching season.”
