How old were you when you started playing your instrument?

“12”

What is your favorite music to listen to? 

“Honestly, 80s metal and 90s grunge.”

Besides the Bakersfield Symphony, what else do you do for a living?

“I’m a professor of viola; I frequently play in studios in LA for albums, video games, television and movies; as well as having my private studio of future performers and patrons of the arts.”

What is one piece of advice you would give to an aspiring musician? 

“Music is always about learning whether you’re learning a new piece, meeting new people or experiencing a new group. Never be afraid of the unknown just because it’s uncomfortable at the moment.”

What do you look forward to playing with BSO? 

“I look forward to meeting new colleagues and collaborating on new ventures.”

Why do you believe in the importance of music education?

“Students, regardless of whether they’re in kindergarten or high school, all have different interests. For me, my music classrooms were a place of exploring interests, creating discipline and creativity. In my classrooms, I encourage students I embrace their interests as well as be open to topics and ideas that others may have. By being open, we create and environment of understanding and respect, even if it’s an idea that we don’t agree with.”
